Cherisse Kovacs, Provisionally Registered Psychologist

Cherisse Kovacs

I graduated with a Master’s of Counselling from Athabasca University in 2020. Prior to entering the field of counselling, I was a Social Worker and spent most of my career working directly with children, youth, and families. My approach as a therapist is client-centered, solution-focused, and relationship-based. I incorporate techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy into my work with clients. I believe you are the expert of your own life. Counselling sessions are a place to explore your life experiences, thoughts, and feelings, working toward increasing self-awareness of problems negatively impacting your life. The alliance we form together in therapy can assist you to work through these presenting issues, helping you to work toward reaching your individual potential.

I specialize in working with individuals (6+) struggling to cope with symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, and anger. I have experience helping individuals to overcome challenges related to managing stress. I also have experience working with couples struggling with intimacy and communication issues, assisting them to work toward increasing interpersonal connectedness and developing ways to reduce conflict by communicating more effectively.

In Her Element

The element I most align with is fire, however I also resonate with the grounded and protective characteristics associated with earth. I am most in my element when I am out walking in nature or sitting under the stars by a roaring campfire.
